Business Spotlight: Victorian Moon

Haven Carey

Victorian Moon owner, Sharon Lynne, opened in her first location on April 7, 2017. Selling products from antique china sets and Irish furs, to tarot cards and spell jars, the unique variety of items are sourced from all over the world, with many being created in the shop. Victorian Moon specializes in both antiques and magical products, attracting a medley of customers like high schoolers, retirees, and tourists.

After moving from the small space in the basement, to the slightly larger space down the hall, she finally settled in a street front space in the same building, 13 N. San Francisco Street. She moved in February 2020, six weeks before the downtown area shut due to Covid. This was a blessing in disguise for the shop as it allowed her to spend her free time rearranging everything until it was exactly as she wanted it to be. After learning that the only places allowed to reopen were those that sold food and beverages, she took the opportunity to create a tea room in the unused space. Lynne reopened after six weeks of primping and perfecting the space. While the tea room no longer exists, prepackaged blends are still for sale.

Sharon Lynne started a social club around August of 2024 called “The Northern Arizona Black Hat Society.” The club meets every six weeks to celebrate different Sabbaths, such as Yule and Halloween. There are also workshops, meet and greets, and occasionally big events such as a catered Witches Ball in October, free to all members and their plus ones. Members partake in spiritual rituals and honor the cycle of nature with likeminded people.

The building itself was built sometime in the early 1920s, and formerly housed a market. Lynne speculates that the space downstairs housed the town's first post office. She urges Flagstaff High School students to “learn what you can, as often as you can, do many different things in your life, gather many different skills and never give up on your dream.” She offers this advice as a successful small business owner that escaped from working for other people.
