Bumping Into Volleyball Season
Bumping Into Volleyball Season

Flagstaff High School’s volleyball season started early in the school year with their first game on August 27th. The start of our volleyball season has been rocky, but it has shown much improvement already. Volleyball coaches expect a lot of growth throughout the season. Flagstaff High School has three volleyball teams, Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. If you plan on going to a game, be loud and help bring up the energy.
One thing freshman Health/PE teacher and volleyball coach Mr. Clever said about the observers of his team’s games is, “the impact as watchers during the game makes such an impact on the game, if they can come out with high energy and support the players then it’s like they’re part of the team.” The next game to attend is on September 22nd, against Mohave. Flagstaff High School's volleyball season ends October 29th, so there are plenty of chances to go and support the school, players, and peers by attending some games.
Volleyball offers more than just exercise; it also builds communication and relationships, all positives if you’re considering trying out for volleyball next season. Tryouts next year will be at the beginning of the school year. For this season, goals from Coach Clever are for Varsity to win state, JV and Freshman to focus on improvement. All the teams will reach their goals through their consistent practicing.
A basic explanation of how volleyball works is during a game there are six players from each team on their side of the court. Both teams are trying to get to twenty-five points first. There are two sets of teams competing to get twenty-five points, and if they tie there is a third set to fifteen. In these rounds, after one team serves, each side can touch the ball three times or less to get it over the net. A player can either block, set, spike, tip, dig, or bump the ball. If the volleyball hits the ground on or in the lines it is considered in.
