What a Performance!
What a Performance!
Auddie Lentine
The football game halftime show included both a performance from the Flagstaff High School varsity cheerleaders and the FHS marching band. Asking one of the cheerleaders how the squad feels about the football game, and what the halftime performance will be, she said, “we feel good, excited about the season, and our goal is to be high in spirit. Our halftime performance is based on the homecoming theme “Journey to Janeiro". Our purpose is to make the homecoming game full of spirit, and make it a good one for the seniors.” The performance included a dance routine, stunts, and a whole lot of vibes! The songs used for the routine was a mashup of songs based off of Hispanic culture, get silly by V.I.C, and some other popular songs.
Moving onto the halftime performance from the marching band, the whole performance definitely fits their theme “music from great cities”. I asked Dr. Mac, the music director, and beloved teacher at FHS, what the meaning behind the choices of the songs that were used in the halftime show. With songs such as Crazy in Love by Beyoncé, and Mas Que Nada by Sérgio Mendes, he responded with “this year, the theme is music from great cities, [such as] New Orleans, New York, and Rio de Janeiro. It’s a tune tied strongly to NYC and there is a really good band version of it. We decided that it really fit our players well this year.”
Dr Mac and his wife, Ms. Mac both worked so hard to compose this masterpiece of a halftime and as a member of color guard, I was very excited to perform this halftime show, and show off everything we have learned since the start of school! Football games are something that most spirit lines find the most exciting and fun, and everything was made so much better when our football team beat Tempe!
