During the fall months in Flagstaff, Arizona, the Aspen trees turn a beautiful golden shade. While many people from surrounding areas travel just to observe the leaves changing, not everyone knows about the best hidden spots. When people come and observe leaves like this, it is called leaf-peeping.
There are many spots to venture to see the golden leaves, but you’ll want to visit early as they fill up quickly. According to the Flagstaff Daily Sun, the best spots to go for leaf-peeping are Lockett Meadow along with the Abineu-Bear Jaw Trail Loop. Find the most accessible trail for you; these trails might seem more difficult to get to but seeing the stunning trees will make it all worth it in the end. While you can see a few of the trees just driving around Flagstaff, seeing rows of bright yellow covering the trees and forest floor is breathtaking and worth the trip.
Flagstaff is the main place in Arizona to see the Aspen trees. The first few weeks of October are the best time to see the colors to the fullest extent. If you plan on going to see the trees, along the trails, you should bring water and leave no trace! You should also check the United States Department of Agriculture service website to view their safety precautions and specific rules about your selected location. Also make sure to plan ahead with the weather, so you don’t get stuck in a monsoon.
Flagstaff High School student Ava Blank said, “every fall, I always look forward to the changing colors of the leaves, they’re the highlight of Flagstaff.” Many locals wait all year to see the colors. If you're looking for your next adventure in Flagstaff, make sure to go see the outstanding gold setting in the Aspen trees.
