Auto’s Driving Wheel
Auto’s Driving Wheel
Santiago Romero
In FHS, a program called ‘Autos’ is available for students to learn about repairing and fixing cars. Mr. Delgadillo hopes to push students into the direction of cars and working in auto mechanic programs. In Autos, they learn how to break down small engines and how to start one. In response to the old teacher passing away, the Autos class was ultimately gonna get shut down. As Mr. Delgadillo had thought of returning to school for math, he realized that he had the opportunity to lead the program and save it. He had helped with mechanical stuff in the military, so he already had the experience.
As a result of being the teacher, he hopes to inspire more and more students to get certifications and enter tech schools and automotive trade. Students being able to gain confidence on learning how to diagnose and fix problems in cars is his greatest goal. For most of the assignments, he has specific due dates, but students are able to complete any of them early as they are generally all open. For tests, they make sure they can fix engines properly, while knowing how to do a heavier auto mechanic job.
Mr. Delgadillo says, “if you wanna take Autos, there’s one downside. You have to take it during the first semester.” During the first semester, you learn all the safety protocols and procedures to be able to safely take care of a car. Changing rotors, brakes, or even lightbulbs can help you in your future if you don’t wanna pay a mechanic, but you should decide before your senior year starts if you wanna take the class so you don’t wait until it’s too late.
Mr. Delgadillo has also been a football and wrestling coach since 2007. He is a 3rd generation flagstaff native; He went to Sinagua High School back when it was a high school before he went to Football at NAU. After the military, he came home and started a family. His dream car would be a 1967 Shelby mustang GT 500 in dark grey with black racing stripes. This car was seen in ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ and is known as “Eleanor.”
