If excusing a student for a medical appointment, a doctor’s note must be brought in within 48 hours to have the absence marked as a Medical Appointment (MA). Otherwise, a different absence code will be used.
-
When calling to have your student leave campus:
- Call at least 30 minutes in advance (preferably more)
- Provide: student’s name, your name and phone number, reason for leaving, and time of sign-out
- You do not need to come into the building to sign your student out. We can verify you over the phone, and your student can sign themselves out.
If the student returns, they must sign back in.
-
If a student is leaving at lunch for any reason other than getting lunch, you must call first so the absence can be excused in advance.
-
Students may only be excused or released by a legal Parent/Guardian or Emergency Contact listed in the student’s file.
-
On Fridays or days before a holiday break, we may not be able to fulfill requests for your child to leave within 30 minutes of release time. Please call earlier in the day.
You have 48 hours from the date of the absence or tardy to excuse it. After 48 hours, we cannot change attendance marks unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.
Attendance Policy: Arizona Law states students must be in class 90% of the time in order to receive credit. There are 90 days in a semester so 10+ absences may result in a loss of credit.
Students may be excused by their parent/guardian in the following cases: illness, doctor appointment, mental or behavioral health, homelessness, bereavement, family emergencies, family vacation (up to three (3) days per school year — absences for family vacation after 3 days will be marked Unexcused), time necessary to process for the armed forces, and out-of-school suspensions. In some instances, school administration may require documentation.
