A Letter to Freshman

Samantha Kelly

The final week at Flagstaff High School’s first semester has concluded and final grades have been released. This is a time for reflection among the student body and that provides an opportunity to develop better habits for the coming year. As a senior myself, I cannot express how it is extremely easy to fall into bad habits and continue to allow bad habits to worsen. It is so important to work on developing skills that set you up for success early. Giving yourself time to do homework, setting deadlines, and staying up to date on workOerson with book on face are all so important even if you aren’t a freshman.

Procrastination might have its perks of teaching you how to deal with stress and how to hold yourself accountable. Chloe Hulgan, a college bound student Flagstaff High School spoke on the importance of these skills, saying, “as a senior in high school and college classes, balance is everything.” She continued to say that a successful schedule has time for things other than school and home responsibilities. “I can be successful and get good grades when I have time to have fun with friends too,” she continued. She stressed that these skills can be carried with you past high school and into college or the workforce.

It is exceedingly important you stay on top of your assignments as they are assigned to you. Learning to focus and learning to wait on things you want to do in order to get things you need to do, done, is a life altering skill. The workload increases every year and if you’re unprepared comes more strain. Your mindset matters. Whether it’s getting good grades early on so you can relax later or finishing strong all four years. Doing well in school starts with your tactics and your approach. What you do in school can open doors for you in your life, and the skills can benefit you in unexpected ways.
