Quite the obsession at FHS

Quite the Obsession at FHS

Auddie Lentine

A surprising number of students at Flagstaff High School spend all of their time on their phones, but have you wondered what they’re really doing? While some scroll on TikTok or Instagram, a growing number of our school’s student body is diving into a digital warfare

I first discovered the game when I saw my friend Macy McCarthy playing it while we waited for the 2025 FHS graduation to start. IA person's hand holds a smartphone, playing a game with a colorful interface. had never heard of it before, but after that day, I began to notice more and more students opening the game in-between classes. A friend of mine, Macy McCarthy, is a great example of someone who loves this game! After asking her if it has ever distracted her from any of her classes, she responded with, “No it has not, I’m pretty locked in for class, and if you're addicted to clash royale, then that's your own fault… I’m not addicted, I only have 3,500 trophies, a real addict would have 10,000” Now let’s see what this game is all about!

Clash Royale is a mobile game where you collect cards that represent warriors, and you build your towers to become stronger while fighting random opponents, who happen to be real life people. There are clans that you can create in the game, where you either battle hand-in-hand, or against each other, which can definitely connect students, but also start some huge fights!

Whether you consider yourself a ‘sweat’ (Someone who can get quite aggressive while playing such games) or the average student, it can be enjoyed by all ages and has clearly created its own world inside FHS where students can bond, unwind, cry, etc.

  • How can you bond from this?

Well, students who share the same passion for this game can easily connect and play together, and like I stated, FIGHT each other.

  • How does this help with unwinding?

You can get all of your built-up tension from school and play this highly stressful game to relieve yourself, and focus back to the papers on the desk in science class.

  • And why would this game make you cry?

Well, like I said... It's very stressful, and I might have cried a couple of times from losing and losing and losing.

But overall, this amazing game, and its widespread popularity amongst our students is quite interesting as a personal fan, and brings me joy when I see fellow students have such a whirlwind of emotions.
