RAK Week: Flag High + Kindness

RAK Week: Flag High + Kindness

Piper Robb

One smile, one held door, one shoutout to a favorite teacher-it might seem small but these gestures all add up. This week at Flagstaff High School, as the halls buzz with not only school spirit but also generosity for Random Acts of Kindness week!

Random Acts of Kindness week is a week to show that, as some of the school counselors say, “no act of kindness, no matter how small, isA black and white image features a quote about kindness and a drawing of an orchid. ever wasted” I believe that RAK week has transformed the school into a place where even just a clip on your bag or note on your locker can brighten your day. RAK week is a reminder that at FHS being kind is just as important as being smart.

Throughout the week, the halls were filled with intentional gestures that made everyone on campus feel not only included but also helped people realize how important yet simple it is to be kinder.

RAK week was founded by the Random Acts of Kindness foundation in 1955 to encourage small gestures in school and work places. Some other local schools in Flagstaff also take this week to donate to organizations like Flagstaff Family Food Center and create care packages for people in need. RAK week began in Denver Colorado in the 1990s, and has now been spreading globally; including to New Zealand in 2005.

All in all, I wrote this to remind myself how important the smallest actions mean to people and how even just a smile can make someone’s day or week. Spread kindness and keep Flag high full of smiles!
