Volunteering and working with animals not only change your life, but the animal’s lives too. With a 95% release rate, High Country Humane is a crucial way to support homeless animals in Flagstaff.
One of the good things about volunteering at this shelter is that they have super diverse options on what you can do with their animals
when you volunteer. One of the roles that you can play in the dogs’ lives at the shelter, is dog walking. Even if it is just for a quick 30-minute walk around the shelter all dogs like to have a bit of freedom-you could even take the dogs to Sedona if you wanted to. Another thing you could do whilst there is take a stop by their “cat room”. The room is designed for the cats that are able to be pet and played around with before adoption. Some of the other things you could do for these animals are event planning, special projects and adoption counseling.
When you volunteer at this shelter-no matter how small of a difference you think you make it means the world to the animals. You teach the animals all sorts of social skills including helping super shy and scared animals at this new place to feel comfortable. Sometimes it is hard to hold up the fort, especially in the summer, so when you come and volunteer with grooming, feeding, and just providing sanitary living conditions, it means the world to both the staff and the animals.
Getting Started at the animal shelter is a super easy process, you can sign up over the phone or stop by in person for volunteering. If you're going to sign up in person to take a dog for a hike, then you will need to fill out papers, but if you are going to help with cleanup for the pets, you will need to sign up and take animal training with them before, but for the most part, if you show up they will take you in and teach you everything you need to know about how to care for the animals.
