Shut Up and Drive!
Shut Up and Drive!
Auddie Lentine
Basketball season had come as soon as possible when band camp ended, and band and color guard is back on the field… or the
court. We spent weeks picking out the perfect song to bring the students of Flagstaff High School, and even more weeks learning intense choreography to perform during the varsity basketball halftime!
The song that has been chosen is ‘Shut up and Drive’ by Rihanna, and the choreography that was lovingly crafted by Mrs. Mac, and a nice guy named Shawn from NAU. This choreography and song will carry us far beyond the Basketball Halftimes, and lead us into the Spring Concert that includes the band, orchestra, choir, and solo routines! I asked my best friend Hanazbaa Lucero if she is looking forward to seeing the concert and she said “Yes it sounds like the orchestra and band will put on a delightful performance for all to see, and color guard also puts on a great show with the amount of talent they display”
color guard was very excited to be preparing for the concert and giving the students more entertainment other than watching people fight over basketballs. Spring offers more than just an exciting concert, but also a new skill that is being brought to the stage, rifle! We are now being taught how to perfect throwing a 10-pound wooden rifle into the air and catch it with a big bright smile on our face. But don’t get me wrong, I have never loved going to school more just so I can learn this rifle routine, and being able to do pretty things with a rifle, which is so endearing, I already got hooked and want to continue rifle into college! However, I broke one of my fingers from catching it wrong, which isn’t very pretty but I love dedication and I’m still thriving with my pink rifle.
All in all, this is pretty much what color guard is going to look like until the end of the spring concert, so stay tuned Eagles, because guard is ready to show off the amazing skills we have learned this year, shake our flags, and throw our rifles on stage!
