Hidden Gems: Club Spotlight

Hidden Gems: Club Spotlight

Paige Bia

While sports and large events often take the spotlight, several smaller clubs around the school have built tightly-knit communities centered around creativity and shared interests. A few of these clubs like Film Club, Anime Club, and Writing Club may be small in size, but they offer space where students can express themselves, connect with others, and explore their passions in a relaxed environment.

Film Club, meeting in room 206, brings together students who enjoy more than just watching movies, but rather breaking them down, A webpage displays a list of club names with dropdown menus.analyzing themes, and sharing their opinions on what they like most about the film. With around five regular members, the club creates a chill but thoughtful atmosphere for discussion. Although they are a new club and not hosting school-wide events yet, the club has expressed interest in eventually creating their own student films, opening the door to future creativity and collaboration.

Anime Club offers a similar atmosphere, meeting in room 105 both during lunch on Wednesdays and after school on Thursdays to make it more accessible for students. Members gather to watch anime, discuss their favorite series, and explore different aspects of Japanese culture. In the past, they’ve participated in activities like origami and learning about traditional foods, making meetings more interactive. With about five regular attendees, the club hopes to expand by hosting anime movie days in the future.

Writing Club, often described by its members as a “simple club,” focuses on giving students a place to write, share, and grow. Members bring their own stories, exchange feedback, and support each other’s creativity. Despite its small size, the club has hosted poetry nights and displayed student work, creating opportunities for writers to be heard. Looking ahead, they hope to organize more slam poetry events and continue building a space where student voices can stand out.

Together, these clubs show that even small groups can have a meaningful impact on school culture. They may not be the biggest or the loudest, but they provide something just as important as a place where students can be themselves, create freely, and find others who share the same interest.
