Fiction or non-Fiction: That is the Question

Fiction or non-Fiction: That is the Question

Sabe Hernandez Rodrigues

There is no doubt that reading is a wonderful activity to pass the time. It grabs your attention and expands your vocabulary. Here's A tall stack of colorful books sits on a table, with a blurred background.a question my dear reader: would you prefer a non-fiction book such as a biography to learn about your favorite music artist or a fiction book like Lord of the Rings? Examples of fiction books includes romance novels, fantasy novels and science fiction while non-fiction books include real autobiographies, fact books, textbooks, and history books. I asked many Flagstaff High School students which of these two genres they prefer to read. Personally, I prefer something with fiction elements to it, graphic novels to be precise. While some gather knowledge upon nonfiction books such as biographies and self-help books.

A survey shows that 46 students preferred fiction books to read but 34 students voted for books containing the facts and stats. They picked books within the realm of nonfiction. In contrast there are some who prefer non-fiction books. A lot of students didn’t really have a preference for the books they read. This is good too because as long as we do things that don’t just involve social media.

According to ScienceInsight.org link. Being interested in and reading books is healthy for both the imagination, the brain, and eyes. Much better than doomscrolling all day that’s for sure! At the end of the day the most important thing is being immersed into a book with an interesting plot or even interesting facts. As teens become more attached to technology, there should be a balance between technology and letting your brain rest from the blue light that consumes us every day.
