The Law of FHS Restrooms

Santiago Romero

Being a student at Flag High in 2026 feels like a constant punishment for good and well working students who need to use theA hallway with three closed wooden doors, likely restrooms. restroom and don’t deserve it. Students complain, because they are not permitted to go to certain restrooms when they are locked for incidents relating to E-Cigarettes and trash. This is unfair, because when students make decisions that are bad, closing the restrooms will NOT change the students doing that. Freshmen come from different areas and don’t know what occurs when the reason why bathrooms are closed isn’t talked about as clearly which causes the restrooms to close more where they are needed.

ONE: When you focus on the bad students, you hurt the good students. Students who prioritize doing their work and need time to use the restrooms are ultimately affected by the staff that closes the restrooms. Would you want to be tortured for other peoples’ actions when you’re following the code?

TWO: Students do NOT want to share the few restrooms with EVERYONE ELSE. When students need to use the restroom, they do not want groups of people huddling or in a line just to relieve natural bodily fluids. The Human Right to Sanitation states that everyone deserves affordable access to safe and hygienic sanitation. The United Nations established this as sanitation services are required to be accessible in facilities that serve a whole community. Would you deny people the Human Right to Sanitation?

THREE: By banning areas where students can do bad things, they are not going to automatically change. What is going to happen is that students are going to decide to do those things in the remaining restrooms or do it elsewhere. Would you continue to close restrooms when nobody changes and you could do something better?

FOUR: Students come after these restrooms are closed and make the same mistakes as those before them. Unless there are specific signs near every bathroom, students who do not know why they are closed are being punished and forced to relocate elsewhere to do the same bad things. Would you keep students doing the same things that you do not want them to? This is what will occur if you don’t do something different. CHANGE.
