Battle of the Bands

Auddie Lentine

Flagstaff high school has a yearly tradition called Battle of the Bands on May 15th, the doors open at 6 PM, and the show starts at A flyer advertises a 'Battle of the Bands' event, presented by Flag High Records.6:30 PM. Mr. Williams and Mr. Miller team up and set up a stage at the Autos parking lot, as well as most of the students who show up for flag high records! Students from high schools around the area who are in a band, or just love to show the audience their talents come together and compete for the grand mystery prize! Not only are there some sick beats to listen to, if you look past the bright stage, there will be a food truck serving fruity smoothies and coffee. Champ, the silly guy with a truck, will also pay us a visit with his ice cream, candy, and hopefully some food. Lastly there will be a hot dog stand, selling their yummy dogs and hopefully some Dr. Pepper! Now that sounds fire.

The ticket booth is run by students who partake in the club, and they are responsible for keeping track of the voting tickets handed out as students, teachers, or anyone else enter the concert. Voting tickets are for after all the bands perform, you can pick one or more bands to vote for, leaving it up to you and everyone else to decide who wins the battle.

The most memorable part of this little concert are the returning bands, two of the most recognized bands are the ones that include some of the cast of the musicals throughout the years, and of course, the teachers. Some of the brave and musically talented teachers come together every year and perform for the students and for anyone who is interested in watching the teachers try and outplay everyone else. This could be more likely than not, because they are really good. The bands who play for us are really talented and watching them all progress in the bleachers is really a memorable experience.

After asking what battle of the bands means to Mr. Williams, he answered with “It's a chance for teachers who had dreams of being a rockstar to relive their failed dreams, and for students who also have those aspirations to get a chance performing at an event of the school year.” Mr. Williams had also shared some information about how Battle of the Bands, and the club came to be. Apparently, it started as a humanitarian club, which was then adopted by the founders of Flag High Records, and grew to become what it is today!

Learning more and more about this club and the upcoming event, on top of writing an article about it has been so exciting, so make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible and watch your fellow students and some amazing teachers rock the stage!
