Business l (Dual Enrollment)

Description: Students who take Business I will focus on computerized systems and the programs within Microsoft Office. Students will be able to use these programs to create business documents, such as a resume, professional emails, and use technology to maximize their productivity, efficiency, and career potential. Students will be introduced to general management practices, recruiting and hiring employees, accounting, marketing and other key concepts to being a business owner. Students will also learn how businesses are capitalizing on social media trends and how to leverage social media for professional purposes. Additionally, students will be members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) program, and they will attend leadership conferences and compete in either business, marketing or graphic design. This course offers an opportunity to earn dual enrollment credit for FHS and Coconino Community College, BUS 206. In order to earn the college credit, students must pay the reduced tuition to CCC.
Business II (Dual Enrollment)

Description: Knowing how to manage money is the key to both personal and business success and wealth. Students will also be introduced into marketing concepts, career development, seeking employment and work skills. During the Personal Finance course, we will also dive into financial management skills and concepts, including budgets, insurance, financial institutions, credit & debt, and investments. Students will also learn important life skills such as buying a car, applying and paying for college, renting an apartment or owning a house, applying for a credit card, as well as understanding how to obtain insurance and survive after high school. The second half of the class will be learning how to invest in the future. They will learn about the stock market, bonds, real estate, stocks, and other items of investing. Evaluating risk, the time value of money, investing in stocks, investing in fixed income securities and bonds, portfolio management, and derivative securities will be covered. Additionally, students will be members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) program, and they will attend leadership conferences and compete in either business, marketing or graphic design. This course offers an opportunity to earn dual enrollment credit for FHS and Coconino Community College, BUS 101 and BUS 105. In order to earn the college credit, students must pay the reduced tuition to CCC.
Yearbook Publications
Grades: 10-12 College Prep: Elective Prerequisite: Business I or Digital Photo I Fee: $30
Description: Students who enroll in yearbook publications will be committed to preparing the yearbook for plant production. Students are responsible for creating the yearbook for 1650 students here at Flagstaff High School. Advanced computer skills are taught by utilizing Jostens Yearbook Avenue, Photoshop, and InDesign. Students will be required to attend extracurricular activities in order to obtain photos and stories needed for publication (this may be during, before, or after school). This class is considered deadline-oriented and recommended for organized students. We also offer different leadership roles, such as Editor-in-Chief, Assistant Editor, Business Manager and many others.
Engineering I
Grades: 9-12 College Prep: CTE Credit Fee: $30 Prerequisite: Algebra 1 with a “3 or B” or higher. Since this class uses advanced computer, math, and programming skills. Experience in these areas is encouraged to be successful in this class.
Description: This is a foundational preparatory course for students considering pursuing careers in technical, design and engineering fields. Students will first acquire skills in Computer Aided Drafting, electronic components , circuit building, soldering, and programming the circuits with a Raspberry Pi computer. Once these foundational skills are gained, students then dig deep into the engineering design process, utilizing project-based learning techniques, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems. Students will learn to use Solidworks and Onshape (CAD) modeling software, to construct solid models and print them on a 3D printer, CNC or Laser Cutter. Students keep a professional engineering notebook to document thoughts, ideas, sketches, and handcrafted drawings. Successful completion of a full year of this course will prepare students for the Principles of Engineering II. The Engineering Sciences program is designed to develop students’ understanding of engineering problem-solving and design practices. The program will prepare students to apply fundamental scientific and mathematical laws and principles relevant to engineering and technology. Students will learn to apply Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts to current technologies and tools as they learn about the different disciplines and opportunities within the field of engineering. The program is designed and delivered as a coherent sequence of experiences using technical instruction, academic foundations, and experiential learning.

Description: FHS Engineering II is a secondary course for students considering pursuing careers in technical, design and engineering fields. FHS Engineering II delves deeper into skills introduced in Engineering I as well as:

Introduction to Culinary Arts

Description: This course is an entry-level class providing basic principles in food science, food safety, and food preparation. It is designed to introduce students to fundamental food preparation terms, concepts, and methods in Culinary Arts; laboratory practice will support classroom instruction/learning. Essential terminology, knowledge and skills/techniques are covered with an emphasis on basic kitchen safety, sanitation, equipment maintenance, and operation procedures. There will be reading, writing, and other classroom assignments that precede lab activities. Students will learn the following skills: kitchen safety and sanitation, how to read a recipe, measuring and mixing techniques, basic cooking techniques, kitchen equipment identification and use, cutlery skills, beginning baking, and nutrition.

Description: This course provides “hands-on” training for students interested in a job in the food industry. Students obtain a Food Handlers’ card from the Coconino County Health Department and assume the responsibility for running the Eagle’s Nest Café, a licensed restaurant and bakery. Skills are developed in planning, preparing, marketing and serving meals.

Description: This course is a continuation of skills learned in Culinary Arts I. Second-year students work as kitchen managers in planning and preparing meals in Eagles’ Nest kitchen. Students receive their Food Manager’s Card from the Coconino County Health Department or ServSafe National Certification as well as learn advanced skills in a state-of-the art kitchen. Students may compete in CCAP, FCCLA and various other culinary competitions to earn college scholarships.
Introduction to Pastry and Baking

Description: This course is an advanced baking course for students who are interested in a possible baking/pastry career or a great foundation in baking as a life skill. This is a transition class from basic kitchen baking to advanced baking concepts in a state-of-the-art culinary lab.

Description: This class is for anyone who might be interested in owning their own business in any aspect of food or wish to focus on advancing their baking skills. Culinary skills and business skills will be taught throughout this class. Classroom facsimiles—the closest possible to running your own business. The 2017-2018 school year provided for a barista program which is a true Flagstaff High School entrepreneurship. Students are responsible for coffee creations, baking, delivery, and costing items for the program. Requires a student with initiative and self-motivation.

Description: This course is designed for advanced culinary students who desire a culinary career and want to compete to earn college scholarships in these varied areas. Students learn organizational skills and advanced culinary technical skills in order to attend competitions to earn college scholarships.
Early Childhood Education / Child Development I

Description: This course studies early childhood development. Units include prenatal development, ages and stages of development, safety, health, meal planning, story-telling, art, literacy, and puppetry. Students will 39 develop skills to meet the needs and abilities of young children from birth to three years of age. Observations and experiences are completed in the Eagle Crest KIDS Center, the FHS licensed child care center on campus. Students will earn several certifications that are required for working with children as well as their Food Handler and First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Certifications are offered at no cost to the student. Students in this class are eligible to participate in FCCLA (Family Careers and Community Leaders of America) activities both on and off campus.

Description: This class provides a practical application of design through our school-based student-lead screen printing business, Flag High Screen Printing. The students learn to run a screen printing business where they are able to design t-shirts, stickers and much more. Students learn the ins and outs of running a team-based business that is focused on the application of skills acquired throughout previous design classes.
Law Enforcement I (Dual Enrollment)

Description: This class is to introduce the students to the career field of Criminal Justice. The class will cover mostly the foundations of Criminal Justice. The student will learn the vocabulary of the industry, the history, the changing environment, and the many career fields in the industry. This class is taught through CCC and is their introductory class for Criminal Justice AJS 101. We discuss real life situations in an open manner. We will have 46 guest speakers and some hands-on activities. The students can receive both a CTE credit and CCC credit. This course will lead into Law Enforcement II.
Law Enforcement II (Dual Enrollment)
Grades: 11-12 College Prep: CTE Credit Prerequisite: Law Enforcement I Fee: $30 and CCC Tuition Description: This class is to introduce the students to the area of Crime Scene Investigation. We will learn the process Law Enforcement goes about investigating a crime scene. The students will sketch the scene, measure, photograph, and collect evidence. They will learn how to store evidence and the process of transferring the evidence to be processed scientifically, or to a detective, or to the courts. They will learn about the court procedures and testifying about their involvement in the investigation. We will have hands-on activities, so the students can learn about investigating a crime scene.
Sports Medicine I

Description: Sports Medicine is intended for students who have an interest in Athletic Training and other similar health care professions. Some students desire to learn how to care for their athletic injuries during their high school career. Topics include gross anatomy, taping and wrapping techniques, prevention of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, CPR/ First Aid Certification through the Red Cross and administration of 43 Athletic Training programs. Must have a C or better to move on to Sports Medicine II. Must have a B or better to be interviewed for the Internship course.
Sports Medicine II (Dual Enrollment)

Description: Sports Medicine II is intended for students who have successfully completed Sports Medicine I and would like to further their education in health care. Topics include Emergency Medical Responder certification through the Red Cross, advanced medical terminology and evaluation techniques, an in depth understanding of how to palpate and test injuries, applying vital signs to fitness plans, application and understanding of therapeutic modalities, rehab development, crutch fitting, advanced physiology and anatomy and more. This course is also for those that may be interested in assisting in the Athletic Training room as a student intern. You must have a B or better to be interviewed for the Internship course. This course offers an opportunity to earn dual enrollment credit for FHS and Coconino Community College, Medical Terminology I, AHS 131. In order to earn the college credit, students must pay the reduced tuition to CCC.
Sports Medicine III - Internship
Grades: 11-12 College Prep: Elective Fee: $30 Prerequisite: Sports Medicine II with a B or better to be interviewed for the Internship course. A full year or one semester elective that is completed after school (9th hour).
Description: Sports Medicine Internship is for students that have completed Sports Medicine I and Sports Medicine II or are currently enrolled in Sports Medicine II. Due to limited space, the student must interview and be accepted into the program. This course would be intended for those that want to assist as an Athletic Training Student Aide in the FHS Athletic Training Room. Therefore, it would involve volunteer hours after school (at least 5–8 hours a week depending on the sports season). The curriculum involves advanced practice of skills the students were introduced to in Sports Medicine I and Sports Medicine II, as well as anatomy and medical terminology studies. The students would also be expected to be an active participant in the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) by taking a leadership role and/or by attending a state conference and taking at least one exam to compete in HOSA events.
Automotive Technology I

Description: This class is vocational in nature and designed to prepare students to work in the automotive industry or a related field. Students receive instruction on safety and shop procedures. They are given instruction in basic automotive fundamentals, maintenance procedures, and repair operations. In this course, students will use common hand tools, equipment, and specialized automotive power tools and test equipment. Students will be members of SkillsUSA.

Description: The purpose of this course is to teach the student the fundamentals of common welding processes. The processes covered are oxyacetylene cutting, shielding metal arc “stick” welding, gas metal arc “MIG” welding and flux cored arc welding. Students will use standard industrial welding tools, materials and equipment while learning in an applied setting. This course offers an opportunity to earn dual enrollment credit for FHS and Coconino Community College, WLD 102. In order to earn the college credit, students must pay the reduced tuition to CCC.

Description: Students in this class will be concurrently enrolled in either a Welding II or Welding III class.
